Fixing a Scope Base Mount   What to do ?   How to Do it   How it Turnd Out

There is a good instructional video on how to bond the rail to the action here - How to Bed a Rail, which is more accurately 'How to Bond a Rail to an Action'.

You really must pay a lot of attention to the screw holes. Do NOT get epoxy in the screw holes, either the rail or the action.

My action was cerakoted. I wasn't sure how the epoxy would behave on it, so I removed it. With the rail on the action, I taped the outline of it on the action, then sanded off the cerakote within the outline.

My rail was also cerakoted.

Notice the line imprinted down the center. That line is the total contact area of the rail to the action.

I sanded off the cerakote on the underside of the rail.

I used Epidermix 372, with a couple of drops of ebony paint die to make it black.

I spent time reading the spec sheets for the different epoxies available, although I used Epidermix exclusively in the past, I wanted to check how well it would actually physically bond. Epidermix 372 has the highest compression and tensile strength of the epoxies . JB Weld has 83% the tensile strength of Epidermix 372, so Epidermix will do.
